Las Vegas for Fat People: A Comfortable 4-Day Itinerary

Vegas is secretly built for sitting down: big suites, long dinners, shows and desert scenery you can see from a car seat. This plan keeps walking short, puts outdoor time in the cool mornings, and flags the helicopter and zipline weight limits before you hand over a credit card.

Why it works for bigger bodies

  • All-suite hotels like Vdara and The Venetian give you more floor space and more places to sit than a standard room.
  • Red Rock Canyon's 13-mile Scenic Drive and the Hoover Dam Powerplant Tour are drive-up and wheelchair-friendly.
  • Shows, spas, pool loungers and long dinners mean most of your best hours are spent sitting.
  • Taxis and rideshare are everywhere, so you never have to walk between resorts in the heat.

Watch-outs

  • Strip resorts are enormous. The casino 'next door' can be a long walk through crowds, so ride instead.
  • Maverick Helicopters caps passengers at 300 lb on Las Vegas and Grand Canyon West flights. Above that, you buy an additional seat.
  • The FLY LINQ zipline requires riders to weigh between 60 and 300 lb.
  • Red Rock's Scenic Drive needs a timed-entry reservation from October 1 to May 31 for entry between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
  • The full Hoover Dam Tour goes through tunnels and doesn't allow motorized wheelchairs. The Powerplant Tour is the accessible option.
  • Summer afternoons regularly top 100°F. Do anything outdoors before 11 a.m.

Getting there

Southwest runs a huge schedule into Harry Reid International (LAS), and its customer-of-size policy changed twice in 2026. Since late spring, gate agents can again assign a free adjacent seat when the flight has room. Southwest still recommends buying the extra seat in advance to guarantee it. A prepurchased seat is refundable only if both seats are in the same fare class, you ask within 90 days and the flight left with at least one open seat. On any airline, take the aisle and ask the flight attendant for a seatbelt extender as you board: US carriers generally require their own extender, not a personal one. LAS is spread out. Trams run to the D gates, and you can request free wheelchair assistance when you book. Taxis line up at the curb right outside baggage claim, which is a shorter walk than the rideshare pickup in the parking garage.

Check your airline’s current customer-of-size policy before you book: airline policy guide.

Day by day

  1. Day 1 — Arrive and settle in

    • Taxi from the LAS curb to your hotel. At check-in, confirm the room type, shower type and distance from the elevators.
    • Late lunch on property, then a nap or a pool lounger.
    • Evening: an easy dinner and the Bellagio fountains, which are a short walk from Vdara.
  2. Day 2 — Red Rock and a big show

    • Drive the Red Rock Scenic Drive early (entry before 8 a.m. or with your timed slot). Allow about two hours with stops.
    • Back by noon for lunch, the pool and a real rest. This is the hottest part of the day.
    • Night: dinner, then your Cirque show from an aisle seat.
  3. Day 3 — Hoover Dam or the Grand Canyon

    • Option A: a morning bus tour to Hoover Dam with the Powerplant Tour, back by mid-afternoon.
    • Option B: a helicopter flight to Grand Canyon West, booked with your accurate weight.
    • Afternoon: spa, pool or room service. Evening: a seated bus tour of the Strip lights or a long dinner.
  4. Day 4 — Slow morning and fly home

    • Brunch on property, then a late checkout if you can get one.
    • Leave extra time at LAS for the walk to your gate, or use wheelchair assistance.

Where to stay

Vdara Hotel & Spa

CityCenter, Center Strip (next to Bellagio and ARIA)

Non-gaming, smoke-free and all-suite, so there's no casino floor to cross and no cigarette haze. Studio suites are listed at roughly 580 sq ft with a kitchenette, which means room to spread out and a fridge for snacks. Accessible rooms are available on request; ask specifically for a roll-in shower and a shower bench.

The Venetian Resort Las Vegas

Mid-Strip

Every room is a suite. Listings show around 650 sq ft for a Luxury King with a separate sitting area, and remodeled suites list walk-in showers. The resort is huge, so ask for a room near your tower's elevators and lean on the dozens of on-site restaurants instead of walking the Strip.

Things to do (comfortably)

Red Rock Canyon 13-Mile Scenic Drive

A one-way loop with pull-offs and overlooks, so you can see the red sandstone cliffs without leaving the car. Arrive before 8 a.m. or book a timed-entry slot.

Hoover Dam Powerplant Tour

The Powerplant Tour and Visitor Center are accessible to wheelchairs and scooters, and you can rent a wheelchair in the parking garage for $5. Most of the experience is a short, guided walk with elevators.

Grand Canyon West helicopter flight

The most dramatic sit-down sightseeing in the Southwest. Give your accurate weight when booking. Helicopters are loaded for weight and balance, and Maverick says guests with inaccurately stated weights may be canceled with no refund.

Weight limit: 300 lb per person on Maverick's Las Vegas and Grand Canyon West flights; above that, buy an additional seat

A Cirque du Soleil show

You're seated for the whole show. Book an aisle seat so you can angle a knee out, and check the seat map for end-of-row or box seating.

Las Vegas Strip night tour by bus

See the lights, the fountains and the Welcome sign from a seat instead of walking four miles of sidewalk.

Las Vegas weight limits to know before you book

Activity Published limit What happens above it
Maverick helicopters (Las Vegas, Grand Canyon West) 300 lb per person You must buy an additional seat
Maverick helicopters (Grand Canyon National Park) 275 lb per person You must buy an additional seat
Papillon Grand Canyon flights Third-party listings cite 300 lb Extra seat; confirm with Papillon when booking
FLY LINQ zipline 60–300 lb You can't ride

Helicopter operators seat passengers by weight for balance, so an accurate weight is a safety requirement, not a judgment. Maverick says it can't make exceptions because the policy is governed by the FAA. For more limits by activity, see our guide to vacation activity weight limits.

Is Las Vegas walkable for plus-size travelers?

Not the way the map makes it look. Resorts that look adjacent are often connected by long casino floors, bridges and escalators. Pick one hotel with the restaurants and pool you want, and ride to everything else. If you have trouble standing in lines, ask hotel and show box offices about accessible seating when you buy tickets.

Hotel room tips

  • When you book an accessible room, ask for the shower type (roll-in or tub with grab bars) in writing.
  • Ask whether the room has an armless chair or sofa. If not, ask whether they can bring a sturdier one.
  • A suite's sitting area makes in-room breakfast and midday rests far more comfortable than a bed-and-desk room.
